St. Jacobs Country Playhouse Announces 2010 Playbill

Tickets on Sale for Drayton Entertainment’s 2010 Season

DRAYTON – Drayton Entertainment has unveiled its 2010 playbill, which consists of a world premiere production, smash-hit Broadway shows, lively dramas, and lighthearted comedies. Twenty-one productions will be presented at six historic venues in four distinctive Ontario destinations, in an impressive season that begins this April and continues right through December.
“Drayton Entertainment strives to provide audiences with the best choices for their entertainment dollar and we are delighted by the enthusiastic response to our 2010 Season,” says Artistic Director Alex Mustakas.
Tickets officially went on sale to the general public January 4th.
“The diverse mix of programming in our 2010 Season combined with our commitment to providing quality professional entertainment at a price that is accessible to everyone, is the very foundation of the unique Drayton Experience,” says Mustakas. “We are excited to provide so many different kinds of audiences with opportunities to experience the magic of live theatre.”

Drayton Festival Theatre, Drayton
The Drayton Festival Theatre celebrates its 20th Anniversary Season by kicking off with the Disney sensation, High School Musical. Canadian pop singer Melissa O’Neil, who reached stardom as the third season winner of Canadian Idol (2005), will reprise her role as Gabriella in this highly anticipated production. Watch as Troy and Gabriella surf the tricky tides of peer pressure and school cliques to follow their dreams and find a place in each other’s heart. Fun for the entire family; bring your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews for the world-wide phenomenon on stage April 20th through May 15th. Local youth also have an exciting opportunity to star as chorus members alongside professional performers in this production of High School Musical. Audition information is available at www.draytonentertainment.com. “High School Musical presents an incredible opportunity for a new generation to discover live theatre,” says Mustakas. “We’re thrilled to give aspiring young performers the chance to appear on stage and work side-by-side with professional actors in this energetic and family-friendly musical.”
The fun continues in the touching relationship comedy On Golden Pond. A couple’s getaway plans are thrown for a loop when an unruly teenager forces them to navigate the generation gap through tart-tongued observations on fishing, literature, marriage … and mortality. With its heartwarming message about enjoying the everyday moments in life, On Golden Pond speaks to all generations of theatergoers June 8th through June 26th.
Next on the playbill is the Canadian premiere of Cagney!, a fascinating celebration of silver screen legend James Cagney. His story takes on new life in this spirited musical biography that intersperses five decades of the actor’s movie career with brilliant song and dance numbers such as “Yankee Doodle Dandy”, “Grand Old Flag”, and “Give My Regards to Broadway”. Cagney!, starring Broadway performer and Drayton Entertainment veteran Robert Creighton, takes centre stage June 30th through July 24th. Then get ready for a honky-tonk culture clash that will have you humming a tune ’til the cows come home! Cowgirls is a toe-tapping comedy about a nightclub owner who fears foreclosure is imminent when a trio of classically trained female musicians is mistakenly booked for a concert at her country western dance hall. Will the Coghill Trio save the day? Don’t miss this joyous musical celebration, August 11th through August 28th.
The season ends on a high note with Guys and Dolls, one of the greatest Broadway musicals of all time. Rich in romance, humour, and exuberant dance sequences, along with bright, brazen musical numbers, you’ll walk away a winner with Guys and Dolls, September 15th through October 9th.

St. Jacobs will be buzzing when celebrated Australian choreographer Dein Perry and his multi-award-winning tap dance sensation Tap Dogs take over the Playhouse for the month of June. This electrifying show has wowed audiences the world over. It starts with the pitter-patter of a lone tapper, but before you know it, the stage is rumbling, sparks are flying and six incredible male dancers are stamping their way across a construction-site set made of steel. Don’t miss the energy… don’t miss the sweat… don’t miss the hottest show on legs June 2nd through June 26th.
An instant sensation on Broadway, next on the roster is the unlikeliest hit musical about the most improbable group of heroes. Running June 30th through July 24th, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a quirky musical comedy about a charming cast of outsiders for whom the spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out, yet fit in, all at the same time. Following a 2009 sold-out run in Drayton and Penetanguishene, Country Legends to St. Jacobs! Fusing elements of classic country, gospel, and bluegrass with hilarious comedy and dance, this toe-tappin’, foot-stompin’ salute features the legendary music of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, and many, many more. Conceived, Written and Directed by Alex Mustakas, Country Legends is a captivating walk down memory lane. Don’t miss it July 28th through August 21st.
One of the most gripping stories of all time, the acclaimed courtroom drama Twelve Angry Men will fascinate theatregoers October 6th through October 24th. Directed by Alex Mustakas, Twelve Angry Men is a testament to the complicated quest for justice. This dynamic production is at once clever, dramatic, and deeply compelling. In the spirit of past hits Aladdin, Cinderella and Robin Hood, the Playhouse tradition of the holiday panto continues with Peter Pan, the beloved tale about the boy who never grew up. This must-see production for the entire family features incredible musical numbers, slapstick comedy, outrageous costumes, audience participation, and of course, a dash of theatrical magic. You’ll be hooked November 17th through December 19th.

Next fall, set sail for non-stop laughter with the high seas comedy Separate Beds. Ticket Information
Drayton Entertainment offers many ways to save off the regular ticket price, including flexible subscription packages that enable theatregoers to book tickets to any performance, at any theatre, for any date. When theatregoers buy tickets to four, five, six, or even seven different productions, they can save more than 30% off the regular ticket price. Groups of 20 or more also save close to 15%.
Individual theatre tickets are $39.00 for adults; $20.00 for youth 18 and under, and $33.00 for preview performances.
If you are planning to attend any show in the 2010 Season, buy your tickets before April 30th to avoid the new HST, which comes into effect on May 1st, 2010
